Is town’s new burger joint ‘out of this world’? Our thoughts on Eagle and Spaceman

But when we popped into Eagle and Spaceman on Church Street, we knew we would be getting a great meal.

Located opposite Pure Gym and in-between The Tavern Sports Bar and The Bulls Head, the business opened its doors to customers at the end of July.

We knew it would be good as it is a branch-off of Café at the End of the Universe – the popular and award-winning burger venue that has become a staple of the Cookhouse at Warrington Market.

Thanks to its success and brilliant reputation in the town and beyond, owner Andy Kinsella and the team began a crowdfunder to launch the new gastropub venture, raising more than £6,000.

It is billed as an American-themed gastropub, and the venue does what it says on the tin, with USA memorabilia, flags and decor throughout.

This is also reflected in the menu, with beers and food items continuing the United States theme.

We visited on a Friday lunchtime and were pleasantly surprised to see lunch deal menus on the table.

These proved good value for money, and although it is maybe not as cheap a lunch deal you can get elsewhere, you definitely get what you pay for.

The menu says the lunchtime options are served with a small portion of fries, but you won’t be complaining about portion sizes.

And with Café at the End of the Universe known for it’s quality sourced ingredients, the food was delicious also.

The honey chicken sandwich was packed to the brim, the meat was good quality, and had the crunch you want with fried chicken.

This consisted of buttermilk fried chicken thigh in a hot honey sauce, on a sliced bloomer with arugula salad and rainbow slaw.

It wasn’t overly greasy, and the homemade slaw added freshness to the dish.

Another option we went for was the Pam Solo – a single beef patty with American cheese, arugula salad, red onion and Russian dressing with a brioche bun.

A smaller version of the larger burger on the regular menu, this was very tasty and perfect for a lunchtime jaunt rather than an evening meal.

We left feeling full and satisfied and will definitely be returning.

Note: This was an unannounced visit, and no free food or drinks were asked for or provided.
