Remembering the shops we used to have in Warrington

Many locals have shared their experiences of shopping in stores like the Co-op, Woolworths, and Etam.

Pauline Bradbury noted, “Great shops at least you spoke to people.”

Kath Van Dusen shared her own memories, saying, “I worked In Etams when I left school.”

Delia G Gannon reminisced about her 21st birthday, stating, “Oh Etams… I got my 21st birthday outfit from there.. all great shops, when our town centre was great.”

However, not all memories are sweet.

John Gordon expressed his disappointment, saying, “Before WBC decimated and ripped the heart out of Warrington Town Centre.”

Stanley Tolley added, “That’s all we have is memories because there’s nothing else.”

Despite the changes, many still cherish their experiences.

Joanne Jones said, “Yep I use to love Etams,” while Gerald Daly reflected on his first job, sharing, “My first job after leaving school was a trainee manager for Woolie’s.”

As locals remember the vibrant shopping scene, they hope for a return to a town “to be proud of,” as Rose Cullen put it.
