The festive period always brings with it changes to your bin collection dates. With all those presents, meals and drinks, your bins will soon get filled up so it’s vital you get them out for collection on the right day.

As a result we’ve put together this handy guide so you get all the important New Year changes in your diary. Also included is useful information about Christmas tree drop-off points.

Here’s all you need to know about changes to the bin collection dates in Cheshire over New Year:

Cheshire West and Chester

There will be one collection day change during the New Year period, otherwise residents will receive a collection on their normal scheduled collection day.

  • Normal collection date: Thursday, January 1 Revised collection date: Saturday, January 3

The council also states that Christmas trees can be taken for reuse to the following sites during the hours of 8am until 5pm in January 2026:

  • Whitby Park, Stanney Lane Ellesmere Port, CH65 9AQ
  • Stanney Fields Park, Hinderton Road, Neston, CH64 9PE
  • Westminster Park, Hough Green, Chester, CH4 8JW
  • Marbury Park, Marbury Lane, CW9 6AP
  • Castle Park, Fountain Lane, Frodsham, WA6 6SA
  • Knights Grange Sports Complex, Winsford, CW7 2PT

Signage will be at all sites to advise where to place the Christmas trees which will be chipped and used to mulch existing shrub-beds throughout the borough by the Council’s StreetCare Service. The trees will need to be delivered with no decorations or lights on them. Trees can also be taken to any Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs).

Residents should be aware that there will be no black or silver bin collections on New Year’s Day. Residents who would usually have their bins collected on these days will have their collections rescheduled as follows:

  • If your BLACK bin was due for collection on Thursday 1 January (New Year’s Day), it will now be collected on Monday 5 January 2026.
  • If your SILVER bin was due for collection on Thursday 1 January (New Year’s Day), it will now be collected on Tuesday 6 January.

Councillor David Jefferay, chair of Cheshire East Council’s environment and communities committee, said: “I encourage people who may have relatives, friends or neighbours without access to the internet to check this information for them, so they don’t miss out on any collections. I’d also like to remind residents that they can now sign up – or renew their subscription – to the council’s Garden Waste Recycling Scheme if they would like to have their garden waste collected from January. Finally, I’d like to thank our waste colleagues, who will be continuing to deliver essential frontline services over the festive period.”

Residents are asked to ensure their bin is out for 6.30am on collection days.

Halton

Collection information for Halton residents is handed out based on your location. You can find out more about your festive collection schedule by checking your address on the council’s website.
