Plans were previously submitted to Warrington Borough Council seeking listed building consent for external upgrades.
The venue is located at numbers 16 to 18 Bridge Street, in Grade II-listed Victorian buildings.
Applicant McDonald’s Restaurants Ltd sought a refurbishment of the shopfront, involving the installation of a replacement fascia sign and a redecorated projecting sign.
Plans also sought permission for the redecoration of the window frames, door, and columns, with the installation of a replacement fascia panel.
This approval has now been given, with replacement signage including a white, internally-illuminated sign and a yellow, internally-illuminated sign.
Planning documents state: “The external changes will be updating and formalising the lines of the current shopfront rather than the building itself.

“The alterations are to the restaurant, with a negligible effect on the fabric of the historic building.”
They go on to say: “We have carefully considered this proposal in relation to the listed building during the design process.
“The vast majority of the proposed work is to the original McDonald’s shop fittings, and not to the structure or any historic element of the building.
“While we recognise that the whole of the building is indeed listed, these fittings are not expected to have any impact on the historic value.
“The new shopfront is designed to give unity to the existing building and provide an enhanced street scheme with an improved active frontage.
“It is considered that the shopfront respects the historic character of the area and will integrate with the neighbouring commercial properties, with its wide range of shopfront styles and fittings.”
